Dix Park Conservancy - BOLD VISION

What is the Conservancy

Purpose of Dix Park Conservancy

In partnership with the City of Raleigh, the Dix Park Conservancy supports the planning, development, and operation of Dorothea Dix Park to create a premier destination park for our community, state, and nation.

Dorothea Dix Park

The Dorothea Dix Park, with rolling landscape over creeks and hills, offers tremendous potential for both the park and the communities surrounding the land. And with 308 acres surrounded by neighborhoods, schools, a university, and just shy of downtown, Dix Park will be a destination park for the city and the state. A destination park is a common denominator of great cities—from New York to San Francisco, Houston to Atlanta, St. Louis to Chicago. Such a park creates a competitive advantage for cities luring tourists, businesses, and new residents. With open spaces and gathering places, a great park brings together a diverse and multi-generational community while benefiting the environment and public health. It’s time to think big, think bold, and to make this vision a reality.

Bold Vision, Bold Rewards

A destination park in the heart of Raleigh will:

  • Establish and preserve a common space for future generations
  • Honor the legacy of Dorothea Dix Hospital and the commitment to wellbeing
  • Protect the historic character of the city and state
  • Highlight our capital city as an up-and-coming urban community that values beauty, preservation, and open land
  • Expand tourism
  • Promote economic vitality, long-range redevelopment, and investment in areas around the park
  • Position Raleigh as a world-class city with a 21st century destination park
